Small hydro power plants using Francis or Kaplan type turbines have generally low specific speeds and require a speed increasing gearbox to drive the generator. The generator design is more economical with a higher input speed.
The gearboxes are designed to suit the individual requirements of each turbine design and running conditions.Turbine gearboxes have been supplied to Babcock Hydro, Alstom Hydro, VA Tech, Boving Fouress amongst others.
